The Michelin Guide's review
The new cathedral, built from 1862 to 1924, is the largest church in Austria and can host a congregation of 20 000 people. The only constraint imposed on the architect, Vinzenz Statz, was symbolic: the spire of the new church was not to be taller than that of St Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. Reaching a height of 134m, the spire is just 3m shorter than its counterpart in Vienna. The fine stained-glass windows are also worthy of note.
