The Michelin Guide's review
The fortifications have remained intact, revealing the original character of this ancient stronghold. Le Quesnoy provides a fine example of Vauban's system of defences. A tour of the ramparts affords a pleasant walk, which is dotted with information panels. The ditch has been turned into a park and open-air theatre. You come across the Étang du Pont-Rouge and then the Lac Vauban, which stretches away from the foot of the ramparts, on both sides of the gateway Porte Fauroeulx. From the bridge there is a view of the curtain walls and pink brick bastions, which are reflected in the water.
