The Michelin Guide's review
The priory was built in the early 13C with materials that mainly came from nearby Hadrian's Wall. The main façade is a fine example of the Early English Gothic style. The nave and left arm of the transept now serve as a parish church. The choir, transept and sanctuary are nowadays open to the elements. Side chapels contain the tombs of the Dacre family, in particular that of Sir Thomas of Kirkoswald, "governor of the Marches".
