Rautenstrauch-Joest Ethnographic al Museum
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The museum holds over 60 000 artefacts and 100 000 photographs from Africa, Asia, America and Oceania. Visitors only see a small selection of exhibits, which are skilfully presented by theme, rather than by region. Note the rice barn from the island of Sulawesi (Indonesia), the Javan shadow theatre (wayang kulit), the interiors of the Asmat of New Guinea and the Tuareg of the Sahara, the Kayseri alcove from Cappadocia and the superb collection of masks, from Borneo to Alaska.
