The Michelin Guide's review
The ruins of Ravenscraig Castle stand on a rocky outcrop overlooking Kirkcaldy Bay. This castle (1460) was one of the first strongholds to be designed to withstand cannon fire and for artillery defence, in keeping with King James II's taste for firearms. Note the layout of the main façade, facing a vulnerable stretch of land located beyond a deep moat. The windows were replaced by gun holes for cannons. Flanked by two towers, this façade bears witness to the castle's massive defensive fortifications.
