The Michelin Guide's review
The former samurai quarter of Nagamachi has been well preserved. Its lovely cobbled alleys winding between low walls of ochre cob, old canals and sumptuous residences immerse visitors in the ambience of feudal times. Buke-Yashiki Nomura-ke, a luxurious samurai residence built entirely in dark-brown wood (1-3-32 Nagamachi), makes for a fascinating visit. At the entrance of the district stands a former Chinese herbalist's shop (shinise Kinen-kan) founded in 1779.
