The Michelin Guide's review
Keeping watch over the historic harbour, the Lieutenance is a vestige of the former home (17C) of the king's lieutenant, governor of Caen. The old gate of Caen, one of two entrances to the medieval village is set in the facade of this house and a plaque commemorates Champlain's departure to Canada in 1608, which led to the foundation of Quebec. Old riggings can be seen in front of the abode.
