The Michelin Guide's review
This fort and garrison town were destroyed and rebuilt no fewer than nine times during the Roman period. Life-size reconstructions have been created of a section of Hadrian's Wall: a stone tower, a wall made from earth blocks (the early border), and a wooden fortified defensive post. In addition to the metal, bone and stone objects on display, the museum exhibits an interesting collection of writing tablets, leather articles, fabrics and wooden objects. Archaeological digs take place here every summer.
