The Michelin Guide's review
The formal gardens were redesigned by Canon Guillaume de Beaufort-Spontin in 1760 in the Classical style. From 1770, his younger brother enlarged them by tracing a second thoroughfare perpendicular to the river, which lies along the hillside of the Meuse as far as Frédéric Salle, a small Rococo pavilion. A Le Nôtre-style garden skirts the length of this second axis and is surrounded by intimist gardens (late 18C) composed of mazes of tree-covered paths (6km).
