The Michelin Guide's review
Geras Abbey is set near a pleasant 140ha nature reserve. It was founded in the 12C and, although rebuilt in the 17C, the abbey church, to which Gothic vaulting and Baroque decoration were added, has retained its original Romanesque character. The fine decor of the Marble Hall includes a masterly ceiling fresco by Paul Troger. Precious objects from the monastery's treasure are displayed in the bishop's apartments.
