The Michelin Guide's review
This was the residence of Andrea Doria who received the title of prince in 1532. The decoration was entrusted to a student of Raphael, Perin del Vaga, who created the frescoes in the hall, the Heroes' Loggia and the apartments of the condottiere and his wife. The latter contains a remarkable series of tapestries, made in Brussels in the late 16C, which retrace the history of the battle of Lepanto. A small sitting room contains the famous portrait of Andrea Doria by Sebastiano del Piombo (1526).
