Ganagobie Monastery

The Michelin Guide's review
A minor road heads up the Durance Valley through fragrant pines and Ganagobie hoves into view. In the middle of a magnificent natural terrace covered in holm oaks, broom and lavender, the ancient priory once again echoes to the sound of plainchant. At the far end of the church, a stone monument seemingly hovering between earth and sky, is one of the finest mosaics in the West (12C). On emerging, turn left along the monks' path to enjoy a fabulous view of the Durance Valley.
