After a pine forest, the road climbs up to the mountainous ridges in the island's centre. From the top of the peak, 1,818m above sea-level, this belvedere offers a magnificent panoramic view over rocky towers and head-spinning valleys: to the west lies the crater site of Curral das Freiras, to the northwest, the ridge of the Torrinhas peak and the Torres peak, with the Ruivo peak in the background. To the northeast are the Ribeira da Metade, the Penha da Águia hill and São Lourenço point.
