The elegant Renaissance château de Fontaine-Henry is particularly noteworthy for its 16C Grand Pavilion with a vast slate roof and bartizan turret. The living quarters, built on the site of a medieval edifice, feature such delicately carved stonework that it seems to have been "chiselled like a piece of jewellery". Highlights inside include sculptures and remarkable paintings (Correggio, Mignard, Rigaud...), Francis I's staircase and the chapel.
