In 1444, Michelozzo was commissioned by Cosimo the Elder to build this palace. The building's exterior gives little indication as to the splendour which awaits within: the fine frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli which decorate the coffered gilded ceilings of the Chapel of the Magi, and the ceiling of the Luca Giordano room, depicting with amazing virtuosity the apotheosis of the Medici dynasty.
