The Michelin Guide's review
Built in the 13C in the Romanesque-Gothic style on the site of a pagan temple, the cathedral has a majestic façade in Istrian white marble. After entering through the finely carved portal (sadly much damaged), note the tomb of Giovanni Visconti. Inside there is also a lovely Byzantine icon and a 5C mosaic of a peacock, symbolising Christ's resurrection and spiritual rebirth.
