The Michelin Guide's review
In 1900 Theodate Pope, one of America's early female architects helped design this Colonial Revival country house for her father, Cleveland iron industrialist Alfred Atmore Pope. Pope's passion for Impressionist art led him to purchase a large number of the works displayed here, notably fine paintings by Monet, Manet, Degas and several canvases by Whistler and Mary Cassatt. Centerpiece of the 152-acre grounds is the sunken garden, designed c.1920 by Beatrix Jones Farrand.
