The Michelin Guide's review
From the castle, take rue des Cendres, a street name ("ashes") that refers to the fire that ravaged the village in the 15C, to get to Place Bugeaud: on the left of this square is the Excideuil Consulate, where the municipal judges used to sit, and opposite is the 1913 market hall, rebuilt using some parts taken from its predecessor (1870). It still hosts the traditional Marché au Gras et aux Truffes – the fois gras and truffle market.
