The Michelin Guide's review
Known locally as the "Kö", this wide and elegant avenue almost a kilometre long follows a section of the moat which once surrounded the town. The avenue, laid out in 1804 in honour of the King of Prussia, Frederick Wilhelm IV, is now a popular place to meet friends, go for a stroll and browse the shops and is always packed on a Saturday afternoon. The Jugenstil façade of the Kaufhof at n° 1 is striking, while on the other side of the avenue, the astonishing glass and stone façade of Kö-Bogen, a new shopping centre, is the work of architect Daniel Libeskind.
