The Michelin Guide's Opinion
Dublin's National Gallery has one of Europe's finest collections of European art (17C-20C). It is housed in a building that has been successively extended since it was opened in 1864. Needless to say, the Irish art is exceptional (see the room devoted to Jack B Yeats, brother of the poet). Just as remarkable is the Italian section, with early reredoses, works by Fra Angelico, Mantegna, Titian, and a superb Caravaggio, The Taking of Christ. French, Flemish and Spanish art is also well represented.
