Down County Museum
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The County Gaol of Down (18C), where Thomas Russell - one of the leaders of the 1798 rebellion - was hanged in 1803, now houses Down County Museum. The central prison building displays collections on the history of County Down since prehistory, while wax models are used to show the conditions in which detainees were kept in the old cells. To find out more, the St Patrick Centre's exhibition and film give visitors an insight into the "presence" of St Patrick in Downpatrick.
