The Michelin Guide's review
Is Dijon really a port? The answer is yes and an obelisk dating from 1780 bears witness to the creation of the port and the 1 000km/620mi-network of canals through Burgundy, created by the Prince of Condé originally to link Dijon to Paris, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic via the Canal du Centre and the River Loire. Although the connection with the ocean was never built, the other two were opened to navigation in the 19C and are now a Mecca for pleasure cruising.
