The Michelin Guide's review
A short walk across a sandy spit leads to Battery Point, once the site of three brass cannons salvaged from an 1855 shipwreck. Established here the following year, this stone and masonry lighthouse warned ships away from the dangerous rocks at the harbor's mouth. In 1892 another beacon (no longer operational) was built 9.5mi to the north to keep vessels from running aground on the reef lying off Point St. George. The lighthouse building contains a small collection of artifacts, photographs and a Fresnel lens.
