The Michelin Guide's review
A castle then a prince's palace, the château was the seat of power of the counts and dukes of Savoie and key to Chambéry's rise as a city. It comprises a remarkable series of buildings dating from a period spanning the 14C to the present, including the Flamboyant-Gothic chapel, Sainte-Chapelle. The château has been the seat of the département council and Prefecture since Savoie became part of France in 1860. Guided tours take you around the emblematic places.
