The Michelin Guide's Opinion
The monastery church, still occupied by Benedictine monks, was destroyed in 1693 and rebuilt in the baroque style. Its impressive façade, the work of Francesco Battaglia, faces onto Via Corciferi. After exploring the foundations of a Roman house and the parlour, visitors ascend the massive staircase of "Angels", a masterpiece of baroque art (1763) and enter the church. Colourful marble, frescoes depicting Saint Benedict and semi-precious stones set the scene in the lavish interior!
