The Michelin Guide's review
The square - the centre of the city designed by Vaccarini - has a harmonious Baroque appearance. The elephant fountain, symbol of Catania, stands opposite the 19C Amenano Fountain, set back on the southern side in front of the Palazzo dei Chierici and Palazzo Pardo. The square is overlooked by the façade of the Duomo, followed by the Bishop's Palace and Porta Uzeda on the right. Slightly set back on the left stands the Sant'Agata Abbey. The northern side of the square is occupied by the elegant façade, by Vaccarini, of the Palazzo degli Elefanti, housing the town hall.
