Noted Philadelphia architect Frank Furness designed this mansion for Dr Emlen Physick in 1879. The residence is one of the few examples of the Stick Style, one of the avatars of the Victorian style, which underlines the structure of the building by applying decorative wood panels on a wooden framework. The interior decor was amended in 1889, most notably in the foyer and the superb staircase.
