The Michelin Guide's review
Somport Pass (1 650m) is the only passage in the Central Pyrenees to remain, as a general rule, snow-free all year round. Its history dates back to Roman times and it was trodden by Pompey's legions, Saracen hordes, pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela and more recently cyclists on the Tour de France race! For a sweeping panorama of the Spanish Pyrenees, climb the hill to the right of the monument commemorating the building of the road.
