The Michelin Guide's Opinion
The ramparts, built from 1345, used to seal off the Lot entirely. Not much remains of these fortifications apart from a large tower to the west which is the site of a powder store and the former St-Michel gate that leads into the cemetery. To the east are two fortified constructions: an elegant guard house which once protected Barre gate, and St John's Tower (or Hanging Tower), built on a rock looking over the river.
