Built by Leopold II, whose ambition was to create one of the world's richest art collections here, this quarter dominates the lower town. The capital's finest museums are concentrated here (Royal Museums of Fine Arts, Magritte Museum, Musical Instruments Museum etc), as well as a conference centre and some of the city's cultural highpoints. Visitors who climb up to the Coudenberg palace are also rewarded by fine views of the city.
