This magnificent church was built over several centuries. All that remains of the original Romanesque structure influenced by Cluny architecture is the south portal and arching of the main portal ornamented with scenes from the Story of Renart. The interior was modified in the 18C. It houses a baptismal font in the Manueline style, in addition to the bronze tomb of the young Dom Afonso which is found in a grille-enclosed chapel on the right side of the cathedral.
