The Michelin Guide's review
The Nichols House Museum is the Hill's only residence open to the public. This little brick gem was designed by Charles Bulfinch, architect of the State House, in 1804. The four-story edifice showcases the possessions and the colorful spirit of Rose Standish Nichols, a feminist, peace militant and landscape specialist of European gardens who entertained the local elite here. Period furnishings and collections (Flemish tapestries, embroidery, painting and sculpture) set the scene.
