The Michelin Guide's review
Built from 1773 to 1780 by architect Victor Louis in pure neo-Classical style, the Grand Théâtre is one of the most beautiful in France, symbolising the alliance between beautiful architecture and culture. The auditorium, which features twelve gold-leaf pillars and is entirely clad in wood, is considered to have perfect acoustics. Look up at the ceiling, painted in 1917 by Roganeau and modelled on Jean-Baptiste Robin's primitive frescoes, to admire the chandelier which features 14 000 pieces of Bohemia crystal.
