The Michelin Guide's review
This sombre 13C fortress was once a hunting lodge for the Habsburgs, who purchased it in 1887. The south wing boasts a suite of magnificently furnished state apartments; the 18C decor and fine ceiling illustrating the Hours of the Day are still preserved in the dining hall. The north wing contains the library, the smoking room and a room decorated in Oriental style, known as the "harem". The most striking feature of Konopiště is the large round tower at the southeast corner, with its machicolations and conical roof, in the Tyrolean style.
