The Michelin Guide's review
With its high stone walls and wide moats, this magnificent fortress is an imposing sight. Although the core of the building dates back to the Normans (11C), it has been modified and strengthened on numerous occasions, with the present structure completed by Charles V in the 16C. The superb vaulted rooms are home to the Museo Civico and the Museo Lapideo. The spectacular basement blockhouses are also worth a visit, as is the castle terrace, from where you can enjoy uninterrupted views.
