Description

The Benaki Museum, founded in 1930 by Adonis Benaki (1873-1954) to house his collections, is dedicated to all forms of expression of Greek identity, whether artistic or related to everyday life, taking visitors on a fascinating journey through the history of the country. Presented in chronological order, starting with prehistoric times, the exhibits include gold items, amphorae, beautiful icons (notably by El Greco), precious fabrics, costumes, jewels and religious accessories (Ottoman and Venetian periods), as well as the reconstruction of the interiors of Greek houses.
