The Michelin Guide's review
This Renaissance building (1545) is named after the statues and mascarons which decorate its walls, which are purported to have been ordered by the former occupant of the house, the bloody general Maarten van Rossum , the boss of the army of the Duke of Gueldre, Charles of Egmont, and an adversary of Charles Quint, who subsequently looked to punish the magistrates who refused to pave the steps of his staircase in gold.
