The Michelin Guide's review
The Gothic-Renaissance-style town hall was built in 1868 on the site of the castle of the Counts of Angoulême by Paul Abadie, architect of the Sacré-Coeur in Paris. The only vestiges are the polygonal tower (former 13C-14C keep), which commands a 360° view of the city, and a circular 15C tower in which Marguerite d'Angoulême is said to have been born.
