This building, a "Monument Historique", built over the period 1855 to 1867, is an imposing example of Napoleon III architecture. Its neo-medieval chapel houses the Heures Italiennes exhibition on Italian art, as well as historical paintings from the 18C and 19C. Mural compositions by Puvis de Chavannes Puys are mounted on the walls of the ceremonial staircase.
