The Michelin Guide's review
France's largest natural lake of glacial origins, steeped in a nostalgic melancholy that appealed to Lamartine, is now popular with yachties, hikers, climbers and cyclists. Its shimmering waters reflect the wooded slopes of the surrounding mountains. Its changing hues range from dark green to bright turquoise and each shore has its own distinctive character. We recommend touring the lake or heading up to La Chambotte lookout point to admire its beauty.
