The Michelin Guide's review
The heart of the cathedral is formed by an octagonal domed chapel that Charlemagne started building around 800. It was the first Byzantine-influenced construction seen north of the Alps. The Gothic chancel, started in 1355, was consecrated in 1414 for the 600th anniversary of the Emperor's death. It is one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites.
