The Michelin Guide's review
In the 12C, St Neophytos withdrew to live as a recluse in this valley, which at that time was deserted. With his disciples he dug a cave and covered it with frescoes, which are still visible. Further paintings were added in the 15C. Today, a vast modern monastery stands opposite the cave: it has an interesting collection of religious art. On 24 and 25 January, in honour of the saint, a major fair is held in front of the monastery.
