The Michelin Guide's Opinion
Set on the banks of the River Main in Frankfurt, this restaurant tastefully blends the classic flair of the old building in which it is housed – beautiful high stuccoed ceilings, herringbone floors – with modern minimalist design. The cuisine draws on the Lohninger family's Austrian roots as well as international influences, and the menu has been divided into two sections accordingly: "Die Heimat" (homeland) and "Die Welt" (the world). The dishes stand out for the quality of their ingredients, their finesse and intense flavours; the kitchen team led by chef-patron Mario Lohninger deliberately avoids gimmickry and places the emphasis on flavour. Their Austrian classics such as Wiener schnitzel also go down a treat. The front-of-house team is friendly, attentive and pleasantly relaxed – anything but stuffy.
