The Michelin Guide's review
Behind the Armenian houses stands the synagogue, which was built in 1610-20 in the Renaissance style, on the site of the initial first place of worship, which was a timber construction. It was then located in the heart of the Jewish quarter - the street was called Ulica Żydowska - and served a community of more than 12 000 people. Damaged by German forces during the war, then transformed into a library, the sanctuary was beautifully restored in the late 2000s and houses a cultural centre.
