The Michelin Guide's review
Forming a natural frontier between Poland and Slovakia, the Tatras are the highest massif of the western Carpathians. Called "pocket mountains" by some, this massif has all the necessary geological attributes despite covering a small area. Zakopane and its district is the gateway to the Tatras; from here the options are many. Mount Gubalówka, lake Morskie Oko, the Koscieliska Valley, the Strazyska Valley and Mount Giewont, Mount Kasprowy Wierch plus winter sports resorts.
