The Michelin Guide's review
Letters, papers, memorabilia and interactive exhibits illustrate and commemorate the life of Richard Milhous Nixon (1913-94), 37th US President (1969-74). The nine-acre complex incorporates the small house where Nixon was born; the graves of the former president and his wife, Pat, are located on the site.Nixon's personal artifacts appear in a timeline detailing family history and early life, including his childhood dedication to the violin and his wartime poker prowess. Innovative exhibits chronicle Nixon's political career: his famed 1960 campaign debates with John F. Kennedy are shown on a period television. In a gallery devoted to the Watergate scandal, visitors can listen to excerpts from the renowned smoking gun tapes. Also on display is the rolling fortress, a specially outfitted limousine used by presidents Johnson, Nixon, Ford and Carter.
