The Thelon Wildlife Sanctuary is an immense nature reserve about the size of Denmark. This expanse of rugged tundra, hemmed in by vast winding sand eskers and glacial gravels, is home to an array of Arctic wildlife: Arctic wolves, muskoxen, grizzly bears, caribou, birds of prey and even moose. The Thelon River, a section of which is a designated Canadian Heritage River on account of its exceptional forest and Inuit past, runs for 1 000km within the reserve.
