Glebe House Museum and Gertrude Jekyll Garden
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
In 1783, a group of pastors gathered here to elect the first bishop of the colonies, Samuel Seabury (1729-96). Glebe House, which dates from 1750, is therefore considered to be the birthplace of the Episcopal Church (close to the Anglican Church) in the United States. Surrounding the house, the gardens have been planted following plans designed for the property in the 1920s by English garden designer Gertrude Jekyll.
