The Michelin Guide's review
The best-preserved meteor impact site on earth was created 50,000 years ago, leaving a hole 570ft deep and nearly 3mi in diameter, as well as a lunar landscape in which the Apollo astronauts trained. A path (guided tours only) hugs the crater's rim, but another path open to all does command a fine panoramic view of the site. Panels, movies and interactive installations await the visitor in the museum, devoted to meteors from all over the world.
