The Michelin Guide's review
At the eastern end (The Broadway) stands a bronze statue erected in honour of Alfred the Great in 1901. Among the buildings that line this pedestrian street, you can see the Guildhall, which was built in 1713. Today, it is a bank. Opposite stands God Begot House, a half-timbered house from 1558. Note also the Butter Cross (15 C), in sculpted stone, around which markets took place.
